“The Rankeillor Initiative includes two projects within the Edinburgh Homeless Prevention Service, the Anchor Project and the Genesis Project,” says Camilla Symons, a project worker with the Initiative.
“The Anchor Project provides temporary supported accommodation for adult men in recovery from substance misuse in shared flats in central Edinburgh. We help them develop life-skills through providing practical and emotional support.
“New limitations have meant that our residents need a local connection to Edinburgh, but we accept referrals from individuals, agencies and professional workers. Moving into your own home can be really daunting and our small staff works closely with the clients to build on their recovery and support network, reconnecting with their family and attending health, education and employment services in the city.
“The often changing social care and welfare legislation means we need to be up to date and adaptive at all times to ensure our support is of the highest standards possible.”

This week is CrossReach Week, when the Church of Scotland celebrates the work of its social care arm. Throughout the week, we will profile a cross-section of CrossReach projects.
