Remembrance Prayer

Remembrance Prayer

Friday November 11 2016

God of time and eternity
as poppies scarlet once sprang from shattered earth
and wreaths of remembrance
are laid at war memorials throughout the land
may these garlands be for us
symbols of courage, sacrifice and love.

Weaving past sorrow and future hope
help us be mindful
of the debt we owe others
and the opportunities that lie ahead

Help us also recall the new life and freedom gifted to us
through the sacrifice one made on Calvary’s hill

As we recall the terrible cost of war
the conflicts and acts of terrorism that still cause such pain
lift our eyes above the torment and troubles of the world.
to the undimmed glory of Your kingdom

Renew our faith in Your unchanging purpose of love
and embrace us and all for whom we pray
in that peace which passes all understanding
in Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Rt Rev Dr Russell Barr
