Prayer for Tuesday of Holy Week

Tuesday April 11 2017

You recognised the signs, Lord,
You knew
when Your hour had come.

I pray for those today
whose hour has come:
to give birth,
to begin life,
to receive a diagnosis,
to put an end to something,
to take the first step,
to ask for help,
to forgive,
to leave,
to arrive … …

May all whose souls are troubled
and all who face an hour
after which life will never be the same –
find You, Lord,
in every heartbeat of time.

You explained, Lord,
that a grain of wheat must die
to rise again to fullness of life.

I pray for people today,
who lay down their lives for others:
full-time carers of loved ones,
parents of children with special needs,
teachers who transform lives,
staff in residential homes,
relief and aid workers in dangerous places,
emergency servicemen and women,
heroes and peacemakers in war zones,
ordinary folks who in time of disaster or accident
run towards danger to help their neighbour in need.

May all who die to selfishness
and rise
to love recklessly
know You, Lord,
in the fruits of their works.

You told us, Lord,
that You would be lifted up
to draw all people to You.

I pray for me, today,
that I may have the faith
to follow You more closely
and not count the cost
but give thanks for the blessing.

I pray for the world, today,
that all who are physical refugees
find a place of welcome and new life.
And I pray that all who are spiritual refugees
be drawn by the light of Your Cross
and lifted up in love
by those who are Your body now.
Amen

The Rev Carol Ford (based on John 12: 23-35)
