Prayer for Maundy Thursday

Thursday April 13 2017

Holy God,
Holy and Strong One,
seated at supper with Your Christ,
Yeshua, son of Miriam,
the world’s darkness
shrouding the Upper Room,
disciples dazed and chilled with fear,
stomachs churning,
Jesus knelt before them,
knowing the thought of every heart.
One by one
in intimate encounter
He lifted feet torn by life’s turns,
souls misshapen by suffering,
lifting them to heaven,
making sacred each one
sanctifying earth with heaven’s touch.

Bathed in Eternity’s beneficence,
we enter the Holy of Holies,
washed,
ready to receive from Yeshua’s hand
bread broken,
broken for broken people
for Judas,
for Peter,
for the disciples who will flee,
broken for me.

Only the beloved disciple,
the one whom Yeshua loved especially,
will stand at the foot of the Cross.
Tonight at Table,
reclining on the heart of Yeshua,
letting the rhythm of Holiness resonate
through far reaches of his soul,
the beloved disciple
lay in the womb of Yeshua,
resting utterly in Him,
was filled with the essence
of Eternity’s eloquent silence.

Consuming and consumed,
at one with the One
in Love’s feast
tasting Transcendence,
dwelling in the Divine,
the Divine in me,
illumined by blinding Darkness.
Shalom.
Shalom.
Shalom.
