Princess Royal Attends Scots in Great War London Event

Friday March 8 2019

HRH The Princess Royal has attended an event to mark the work of Scottish organisations in London to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One.

Two Church of Scotland churches in London, St Columba’s and Crown Court, were represented at the event at London Scottish House, home of the London Scottish Regiment.

Princess Anne is the Patron of the group Scots in Great War London, which organised a series of events and published a commemorative book. During the First World War 50,000 Scottish soldiers were given hospitality at St Columba’s as they travelled on leave to and from the trenches in France and Flanders.

Accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, the Princess Royal was briefed on the current work of the organisations. There was a display of Scottish dancing, a Burns recitation and a choral performance.

Apart from the two churches, the groups represented were the London Scottish Regiment, the Caledonian Club, Scotscare, London Scottish FC, Scots Guards, Royal Caledonian Education Trust, Burns Club of London and Caledonian Society of London.
