New minister for St Giles' Cathedral

Monday July 14 2014

The congregation of the iconic St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh has called the Rev Calum MacLeod (right) as its new minister.

Mr MacLeod, who was born in Scotland, left the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago in February after 16 years.

He said: "I am humbled and honoured to have been selected.

"This historic and important church in the heart of Edinburgh has, I believe, a vital role to play in the life of the city and the nation at this critical time for our country and on into the future.

"Having served a large Presbyterian church in the centre of Chicago for the past sixteen years it is an exciting time to return, with my wife Missy, to my homeland and the Church of Scotland, which nurtured me and trained me for ministry."

Mr MacLeod was born and educated in Glasgow, and was probationer assistant and assistant minister at St Columba's Church of Scotland, London, where he was ordained in March 1996.

He replaces the Very Rev Dr Gilleasbuig Macmillan, who retired after 40 years at St Giles' last year.
