Extra 'Nitekirk' sessions for Edinburgh Festivals

                                                                                                                                               Wednesday August 6, 2014

AN innovative drop-in nightime church offering sacred space amid the bustle of the Edinburgh Fringe and Festival will be opening its doors on three nights during August.

Nitekirk, an ecumenical project in the city centre which usually operates for an evening each month, will open its doors on Wednesday August 13, Saturday August 16 and Wednesday August 20 from 8.30pm to 11.30pm at Greyfriars Kirk.

The project, which has funding from the Church of Scotland's Go For It fund, started as an experiment during the 2008 Fringe festival and has evolved in to a year-round church community.

A Nitekirk spokeswoman explained: "Using silence, art installations, music and poetry, Nitekirk offers a sense of open sacred space in the midst of the busy city. It is church for the unchurched and the overchurched."
