2014 Shoebox Appeal Launched

Friday August 29 2014

Blythswood Care launched its 2014 shoebox appeal today (Friday).

Last year’s appeal produced 118,000 gift-filled boxes for deprived children and vulnerable adults.  Containing toiletries, clothes, sweets, toys and other every-day items, they were distributed in orphanages, schools, hospitals, care homes and Gypsy villages in eight countries in Eastern Europe.  Nearly 15,000 were sent to Pakistan.

Boxes are contributed by schools, churches, workplaces and individuals throughout the UK.

“A shoebox filled with surprises really does bring joy and happiness to those who receive it,” saidBlythswood’s chief executive James Campbell.  “Many can hardly believe that a stranger would spend time and money filling a box with such useful and practical gifts for them.

“Your thoughtful act of generosity means so much – they feel loved.  And in most cases your gift is the only one they will receive.

“By filling a box for Blythswood’s Shoe Box Appeal, you are making a very personal present of practical help to people facing a level of hardship which is hard to imagine.”

“We have received the literature but there is no place to take the boxes when filled. We live in Clevedon, Somerset. Any answers please?”
