Scots Church on Jersey Open for Referendum

Monday September 15 2014

The Scots Church on Jersey is to open throughout the day at the end of the week as Scotland goes to the polls, and then begins to digest the result of the Independence Referendum.

A large number of Scottish people live on the channel island, although most of course do not have a vote in the referendum.

St Columba's Church of Scotland, in the island's capital St Helier, will be open from 10am-8pm from Wednesday to Friday, the day on which the result will be announced.

The Minister of St Columba's, the Rev David Logan, said: "Our purpose in opening our church is to provide a touching place of calm and quiet for all who have the interests of Scotland at heart. A place, where they can contemplate all that is happening without the pressure of the political campaign. All are welcome to visit this neutral place and to take time out. At 7:30pm each evening, there will be a short prayer service that will be open to those of all denominations and none.”
