The minister of Glasgow Cathedral, the Rev Dr Laurence Whitley, has received one of the city's highest honours in recognition of his service over many years.
Dr Whitley was presented with the Loving Cup by the Lord Provost, Sadie Docherty, at a dinner last week. The award is presented to any person or group who has brought distinction or honour to Glasgow.
He was honoured for pastoral service to the city, presiding at civic events such as Remembrance Sunday. He was also praised for the comfort he gave to those directly caught up in the Clutha disaster, including survivors and staff who received emergency attention. Dr Whitley as police chaplain, visited the crash scene and the grieving, injured and shocked who were housed in emergency centres across the city.
He also presided at a special service at the Cathedral, in the aftermath of the helicopter disaster, attended by leading politicians, emergency services and NHS personnel as well as those directly affected.
Dr Whitley has been minister of the Cathedral since 2007.
Blues musician, singer and songwriter Frankie Miller, Scottish Commonwealth Games medallists and Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive David Grevemberg also received awards at last week's ceremony, in the City Chambers.
