Summer School to Reimagine Churches

                                                                                                       February 26 2015

A summer school offering opportunities to reimagine new forms of churches will take place in Scotland for the first time this year.

The Going for Growth Residential Summer School will take place from June 22 to 25 at the West Park Centre in Dundee. Speakers will include Phil Potter (who leads the UK-wide Fresh Expressions movement), George Lings (director of Church Army’s Research Unit), the  Rev Dr Doug Gay (Principal of Trinity College, Glasgow)  and husband and wife theologians, John and Olive Drane.

Highlighting the value of the school and of forthcoming ‘vision days’, the Church of Scotland’s Fresh Expressions worker, the Rev David McCarthy said: “Vision Days do what they ‘say on the label’ and even more: not only do they enthuse, encourage and fire imagination, they help with the ‘first steps’. They are a great opportunity to meet, share and learn and then be better equipped to go and make a difference.’

‘The Summer School is an exciting opportunity to engage with some of the most experienced thinkers and practitioners in the development of fresh expressions of church.  It will be a time to really address our hopes, dreams, questions, doubts and fears. It will not be a mere talk shop: each of us will be challenged to answer and live out the ‘So what?’ question.”

Fresh Expression Vision Days, offering everyone in the Church the opportunity to re-imagine new churches connecting with people in different ways will also take place in Kilmarnock (The Howard Centre) on March 14, Dornoch (Dornoch Community Centre) on March 21 and Bankfoot (Bankfoot Church Centre), near Perth on May 30.
