PARTNERSHIP CELEBRATIONS

 Lenzie and Pathhead Guilds link

Church of Scotland Guilds at Lenzie Union Parish Church and Pathhead Church in Kirkcaldy have celebrated the 20th anniversary of a link between the two branches.

A double celebration to mark the anniversary took place first in Lenzie and then in Kirkcaldy where members of both Guilds attended morningworship  followed by lunch.

Kathleen MacPherson, Guild Link correspondent for Lenzie Union Guild said: “For twenty years both Guilds have enjoyed friendship, laughter and a sharing of faith through many joint meetings.  This very successful Guild Link proves the old adage: ‘Of all the gifts that a wise providence grants us to make life full and happy, friendship is the finest’. “

ANNIVERSARY YEAR

A Bishopbriggs church is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its opening in 2015.

Springfield Cambridge Church, which was originally known as Cadder Free Church, was opened on Springfield Road, Bishopbriggs. The original building is now used as a church hall.

The Church has changed its name three times since opening: Springfield United Free Church in 1900; Springfield Church of Scotland in 1929 and finally a further name change in 1968.

Mr Bill Findlay explains: “By the mid-1960s the congregation and youth organisations had grown to such an extent that a new church building was urgently required. Cambridge Street Church in the centre of Glasgow was the subject of a compulsory purchase order and the Presbytery of Glasgow proposed a union which would result in funds being made available for a new church to be built in Bishopbriggs. The church thus became known as Springfield Cambridge Church.”
