Kinning Park Parish Church in Glasgow held a baby shower in June to celebrate the birth of Princess Charlotte.

The shower was suggested by Kinning Park minister, the Rev Marnie Johnston, to accompany the ‘obligatory’ afternoon tea following the royal birth. Gifts would be donated to CrossReach Children and Family Services.

Last Sunday, Viv Dickenson, Director of Children and Family Services, visited the church to collect the gifts. While there, she shared the work of CrossReach services which reach families with children under three years old, including Perth Prison Visitor’s Support and Advice Centre, postnatal depression services and the Daisy Chain Early Years Project.

A special service was held on Sunday marking the 60th anniversary of a Glasgow Boys’ Brigade company’s camps on the Isle of Arran.

The 205th Glasgow Boys Brigade Company from Eaglesham have camped at Kings Cross, on land provided by the Haddow family, and worshipped in Whiting Bay and Kildonan Church on the first Sunday of the Glasgow Fair every year since 1955.

To mark the anniversary, the Rev Elizabeth Watson, minister of Whiting Bay and Kildonan, presented the company with a shield which will be awarded in future years to an outstanding camper.

The shield was presented during the service to Richard Burt, the officer in charge at camp. At the end of the service, company captain Billy Inglis presented a sundial to the church.

Close links between Arran and Eaglesham have been forged over the years with many of the boys returning as adults with family and some having homes on the island. The new proprietor of the Bay Stores first came to Arran with the BB company.

Several office bearers of Eaglesham Parish Church have holiday houses and many others visit regularly. The BB camp and its followers source most of their requirements on the island and are pleased to contribute to its economy.

This long and happy connection with the company has always been much appreciated by the church, and Elizabeth Watson has also been their guest in Eaglesham.
