A CrossReach-owned property in the centre of Edinburgh is to host two exhibitions on the theme of 'recovery' at the end of this month.

Simpson House (above) on Queen Street was where Sir James Young Simpson discovered the anaesthetic properties of chloroform in 1847. For the past 30 years it has hosted a CrossReach counselling service supporting people affected by drug use.

To mark the 30th anniversary, on Friday August 28 the Church of Scotland's social care arm will launch an exhibition called 'Recovery', which will celebrate the journeys of some of the people supported by the service.

There will also be an exhibition and short talk about the history of the building, which was given to the Church by the Simpson family in 1916. It currently hosts the counselling and recovery service, specialist training courses in counselling and the Sunflower Garden for children affected by drug and alcohol misuse.

Simpson House, 52 Queen Street, will be open for the exhibitions from the 2-4.30pm on Friday August 28. Entry is free with donations welcomed. More information from the Simpson House website.

“Great to see both the service, and the individual stories of recovery being honoured in this way.

Those still struggling with addiction sometimes need the inspiration and motivation of stories like these, to keep going.

We're over at https://www.edinburghrehab.co.uk for anyone who wants to connect.

Best wishes,

Andy
