Concert Celebrates Charity Collaboration

Tuesday August 25

A pioneering two-year partnership between two well-known Edinburgh charities will culminate in a special concert next month.

Since October 2013, Fischy Music and The Sunflower Garden have been working together to build friendship groups and promote musical creativity among children with family issues.

The groups have focused on song-writing, discussion and music games as a way of building confidence, making friends and expressing deep emotions about life circumstances that the children may struggle with.

Four songs have been recorded on to CD, and will be showcased by a professional live band along with selected favourites from Fischy Music – in front of an audience composed of the song-writing children, their families, staff from the two organisations and other invited guests on September 4 at North Edinburgh Arts Centre.

The Sunflower Garden is an award-winning CrossReach (Church of Scotland Social Care provider) project whichworks with children affected by drug and alcohol use in their families, through individual and group support, play work and infant massage.  The aim is to break the pattern of intergenerational substance misuse.

Fischy Music is a long-established charity using music to support the emotional, social and spiritual well-being of primary age children.
