Six new Elders were ordained at Penicuik North Kirk during the Harvest celebration last Sunday. From left: Alan R Thornburrow, Kenneth G Inglis, Lisa Conlan, the Rev Ruth Halley, Jean Lord, Sadie M McIntosh and Thomas C M Whyte.

At the same service, Elders Irene M Young and Morris F Conlan (below) were presented with long service certificates.

The congregation of Thornhill Parish Church in Dumfriesshire, known locally as Morton Kirk, is celebrating after the completion of an extensive repairs programme.

The church roof and tower have been refurbished at a cost of over £300,000; and the church clock has also been repaired thanks to a generous donation from a member of the congregation.

Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund contributed grants to the project, along with local fundraising.

In response to an article in Life and Work, Rutherglen Old Parish Church donated the proceeds of their September Coffee Morning to Wellhall Care Home in Hamilton, which is run by CrossReach.

They were delighted to be joined by some of the staff and residents of Wellhall, who are photographed along with Locum Minister Rev Alan Raeburn and coffee server Marjory Greig.
