Church and Society Convener Named New Head of Christian Aid Scotland

Tuesday January 12

The Rev Sally Foster-Fulton has been named the new Head of Christian Aid Scotland.

The current convener of the Church of Scotland’s Church and Society Council, and associate minister of Dunblane Cathedral, will take over from Kathy Galloway in March.

Mrs Foster-Fulton said: “I’m excited, daunted, challenged and cannot wait to get started.”

She said that she saw it as ‘a natural progression’ from her work with Church and Society.

“The three key themes of Christian Aid at the moment are gender justice, climate justice and tax justice, and those three themes have resonated throughout my time at Church and Society.”

The Council will this year be releasing the results of its ‘Speak Out: 10,000 Voices for Change’ consultation, which will

“Those themes are inevitably going to have great synergy with the work of Christian Aid, and I think that puts me in a very special place.

“It’s about joining the dots between the local and the global. Folk in Scotland are seeing the connections between the world we live in, and the neighbours we may never meet but whose lives are impacted by ours.”

Mrs Foster-Fulton, originally from South Carolina in the US, studied at Columbia Theological Seminary and Glasgow University. She was ordained in 1999 and has been at Dunblane since 2007.

She will complete her term as convener of Church and Society at this year’s General Assembly in May.

Kathy Galloway, also a Church of Scotland minister, a former leader of the Iona Community and author of several books, has held the post since 2009. She said she was looking forward to doing more writing after stepping down.
