Morag Hearty and Gordon Webster were ordained as new Elders at Whitburn Brucefield Parish Church on January 31.

The ordinations come at the start of a special year in the life of the church, which is celebrating 250 years as a church and the 50th anniversary of it's Historic Scotland A-listed sanctuary. Various activities will take place during the year, and there are special services are planned for 250th anniversary on September 11 and the building’s half-century on December 11.

The Historic Scotland listing for the modernist building notes that it ‘represents the best of post-war church design in Scotland during the 1960s’.

On Sunday 31 January Mr Sandy Beedie was presented with a Long Service Certificate to mark his faithful and dedicated service as an Elder for 50 years.

Sandy was ordained as an Elder in Ferryhill Parish Church, Aberdeen, in January 1966 and joined the Session at Cruden Parish Church when he moved there in 1989.   During his time at Cruden Sandy acted as Session Clerk from 1993 until 2008 and is still an acting Elder.

Sandy is pictured with his wife Jean, the Rev Bob Fowlie, Interim Moderator, and  Robert Esson, Session Clerk.

Two Elders at Inverurie St Andrew’s Church were last year presented with long service awards to recognise 50 years’ service to the Church of Scotland.

Tom Dalgleish and David Keith were presented with their certificates by the church’s Interim Moderator, the Rev Euan Glen.

Tom (left) was the church’s Weekly Freewill Offering Convener for 15 years and Session Clerk from 1997 – 2004. He continues to give unstinting support to St Andrew’s in many different ways.

David (above) was ordained as an elder in Old Drumchapel Parish Church in Glasgow in 1964 and served in two other churches before settling in Inverurie in 1975.

Moira, David's wife, is an elder at St Andrew's and recently stepped down after 40 years as Flower Convener. Her outstanding service was recognised by a small presentation at the end of morning worship.
