The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland is to speak at this year’s Scottish Churches Housing Action (SCHA) autumn event.

The Rt Rev Dr Russell Barr is the founder of homelessness charity Fresh Start and has made tackling what he calls the ‘obscenity’ of homelessness a theme of his moderatorial year.

The event, on Friday October 7 at the Church of Scotland offices in George Street, Edinburgh, will focus on the challenges of fighting homelessness in the current climate of economic and political change and uncertainty.

It will also be addressed by Kevin Stewart MSP, Minister for Local Government and Housing.

The programme will include a panel discussion and an afternoon session highlighting particular aspects of the work of SCHA. It will be followed by the organisation’s AGM. For more information visit www.churches-housing.org

SCHA, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, is a coalition of 12 Scottish denominations stimulating and supporting anti-homelessness projects across the country.
