Largoward Parish Church Beadle, Robert Anderson, has notched up half a century of faithful service.

At a special presentation during morning worship on Sunday January 22, he was presented with a long service certificate. Largoward Minister, the Rev Dr Peter Mills, paid warm tribute to Mr Anderson’s faithful and dedicated work for the church.

January also included the 35th anniversary of Mr Anderson’s ordination as an Elder at Largoward.

A special morning service was held in Kelso North Parish Church on Sunday December 11, in celebration of 150 years since the church was built in 1866.

The service, conducted by the Rev Anna Rodwell, included two of the hymns sung in 1866 and again in 1966 when the congregation celebrated the church's centenary. On the communion table, a heavy King James's Bible, loaned by a member, had pride of place and the readings were taken from it.

Victorian costumes were worn by the welcome team and choir members, and extra shawls were snapped up by ladies as they hurried into church.

Two young members of the Spirals youth group, Rebecca Hastings and Struan Henderson, were on hand to lower into a floor cavity a sealed Time Capsule containing a message from the minister, several documents, three recent editions of the church magazine 'The Messenger', photographs of the church interior and recent anniversary exhibition, and 2015 and 2016 coins.

It’s not often that you see a church full with standing room only, but on Tuesday night the historic church of Bishopton was packed to overflowing to see the new minister, the Rev Yvonne Smith, inducted.

Yvonne is no stranger to the area, having been a Nursing Specialist in Orthopaedic Care at Royal Alexandria Hospital, and having just completed her final year of training in Renfrew North Church. She is also no stranger to the work of the ministry as her father, the Rev Albert Smith, is also a Church of Scotland minister.
