Christian Aid Urge Supporters to 'Pause for Pancakes'

Thursday February 9 2017

The Rt Rev Russell Barr and his wife Margaret launch the Pause for Pancakes appeal

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland is supporting a Christian Aid appeal to establish a new Shrove Tuesday tradition this year.

The new Lent event, ‘Pause with Pancakes’, will give people an opportunity to gather together, make and share pancakes, reflect on the Easter message and raise funds for Christian Aid.

The Moderator, the Rt Rev Dr Russell Barr, said: “‘Pause with Pancakes’ offers a fantastic opportunity for people to get together at their church, school or youth group, make pancakes and reflect on the Lent journey to Easter whilst also raising funds for the world’s poorest people.”

A launch event will be held on Shrove Tuesday (February 28) at Gorbals Parish Church in Glasgow.

Sally Foster-Fulton, the Head of Christian Aid Scotland, said: “This year’s appeal focuses on our work in South Sudan, where years of civil war has left 6.1 million people needing immediate humanitarian assistance. We’re working with local partners to provide much needed food, safe water to drink and sanitation facilities. We are also providing fishing hooks and nets so they can start to rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient.”
