'Three Formers' Near Fundraising Target

The ‘Three Formers’ who are throwing themselves off the Forth Bridge to celebrate retirement are over two thirds of the way to their fundraising target.

The Church of Scotland’s outgoing Principal Clerk, Moderator of the General Assembly and Chief Executive of CrossReach are hoping that the charity abseil will raise £3000 for the Church’s social care arm. So far, the total stands at just over £2000.

The Very Rev Dr John Chalmers, the Rt Rev Dr Russell Barr and Peter Bailey are undertaking the abseil on Saturday May 28 – the day after this year’s General Assembly, when Dr Chalmers and Dr Barr will stand down.

The event, run by the Rotary Club of South Queensferry Trust Fund, will see them descend 165 feet from the iconic bridge.

The money they raise will go to support CrossReach’s services supporting the elderly, people with learning disabilities, children and families and people struggling with substance misuse.
