A Boys’ Brigade team from 1st Bearsden Company has outsmarted all the competition to win the BB National Masterteam Final 2017.

The team was one of six – also including 1st Polmont – who had made it through to the final of the competition, held in Belfast last week. The quiz tournament included rounds on general and biblical knowledge, famous landmarks, history and famous faces.

The victory of the Bearsden team - John McEwan, Greg Wood, Ross Brown and Fergus Hempel - means double success for the company this year as its team also won the national chess title last month. Two of the Masterteam team members – John and Fergus – were also part of the winning chess team.

The team is pictured with Boys’ Brigade CEO Bill Stevenson. From left: Mr Stevenson, Greg Wood, John McEwan, Ross Brown, Fergus Hempel.

Auchterderran Parish Church held a successful open day on April 8 to show the community the results of its recent restoration.

The church, part of the united Auchterderran Kinglassie Parish, is reopening this spring following more than £250,000-worth of repairs to its roof, stonework, windows and a crypt in the churchyard.

The open day gave visitors a chance to explore the grounds, view a photo display and new information plaque, and buy copies of a new booklet on the history of the parish and church. They were also visited by Nick Cooke from the Scottish Pilgrim Trust, as the church will be part of the Fife Pilgrim Way which is to be launched in the next couple of years.

The Rev Sheila Moir of St Boswell’s Parish Church, in the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles, is pictured with seven Guild members who recently received long service badges.
