Libberton and Quothquan Church, in the Presbytery of Lanark celebrated their annual outdoor service beside the old Quothquan Church on August 13.

The outdoor service, a congregational tradition, is held outside the ruin of the church which was left unused following the union of the parishes in 1724. The bell, dating from 1641, is still in the tower.

A group of teenagers from Woodside Parish Church, Aberdeen decided to do something to beautify the public Steward Park. Supported by their minister, the Rev Markus Auffermann, his wife Isabell and a couple of other church adults, they have painted a big planter in the park with different themes and colours after consulting with the local ranger, Stephen Bly. The group spent more than four hours painting the wooden planter and hope that other local groups and organisations from around the Steward Park area in Aberdeen will follow suit.

To mark the end of the school holidays and the restart of autumn activities, Forfar St Margaret's held an Ice Cream Sundae Sunday service. At the beginning of the service the congregation were served with ice cream and locally-grown fruit, accompanied by an appropriate summery selection of hymns.
Pictured are volunteer 'super scoopers' Jennifer Ritchie and Marion Stewart.

Whitburn South Church Guild celebrated the 90th birthday of Isobel Thomson, who has been a guild member for over 35 years.

This year is the 800th Anniversary of Culross Abbey in Fife, and several events have already taken place to help celebrate this milestone. The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, The Right Reverend Derek Browning, is participating in two celebratory events in September 2017  and an open invitation is extended to everyone to join him.

Saturday 23rd September at 6.30pm - The Heart and Soul Swing Band Concert in Culross Abbey. Entry is free although any donations to the nominated HIV Charity will be very gratefully accepted on the night.

Sunday 24th September at 11am -  Moderatorial Service in Culross Abbey. All churches invited to attend or to send some representatives to this celebratory service.
