Cathedral Invites Medical Staff to St Luke Service

Wednesday August 23

Glasgow Cathedral is to hold its annual Holy Communion service for medical workers, in the Nurses Chapel on October 18.

The Nurses Chapel, in the Cathedral’s 13th century crypt, was refurbished and brought back into use in the 1960s as a place of quiet and prayer for nurses, especially those based in the nearby Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Since 2006, a short service and communion has been held each year on the feast day of St Luke. The author of Luke’s Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles is thought to have been a Greek doctor, and is the patron saint of physicians and surgeons.

All nurses and medical staff are invited to the service on Wednesday October 18 2011 at 11am.

There will be free parking in the Cathedral Square for the duration of the service.
