The Rev Arthur Christie retired from the charge of St Ayle (Anstruther and Cellardyke) linked with Kilrenny on January 31.

The Rev Dr Jack Barr celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination on January 29. Jack, who comes from a family of ministers – his father and two younger brothers were all also ordained – trained as an engineer, working on jet engines and lecturing at Glasgow University before entering the ministry.

He had placements with the Rev Tom Allan, working in the streets of central Glasgow, and his first charge was Trinity Church, Pollockshields.  He saw the church through a union to become Glencairn Church, then was called to St Andrews, Frognal in West Hampstead, London. Jack's last parish was that of the Old Kirk in Kilmacolm, where he served for 10 years. Returning to engineering (in the 1970s it was not easy for ministers to finance a retiral home), Jack was available, if travelling through work abroad, to preach in the Scots Kirk and take communion.  In retiral, he has been active in Auchterarder Parish Church, Alloway Parish Church, Jordanhill Church and, more recently, Dunblane Cathedral.

The weekend of the anniversary was marked in a quiet way at Beech Gardens, Stirling, where Jack is currently recuperating after a period of illness. Close family were joined by the Rev Colin and Mrs Eilidh Renwick and the Rev Dorothy Anderson of Dunblane Cathedral.
