Stamp Appeal for Disabled Children in the Ukraine

Wednesday April 4 2018

The Church of Scotland World Mission Council has announced that its 2018 stamp appeal will support young people with learning difficulties and disabilities in the Ukraine.

Proceeds from the annual appeal will go to support centres run by the Reformed Church in Transcarpathia, a World Mission partner in an area of western Ukraine.

These centres provide support to children and young people living with disabilities, offering individual and group therapies, educational activities, games, music and craft work. The families of the young people are also given support, and opportunities to meet other parents of disabled children.

The church runs three centres, supporting about 50 children and young people and their families. They are open five days a week, although the fifth day is set aside for programme planning and support for parents. A special programme for teenagers is held once a week, providing opportunities to socialise and enjoy a range of activities.

The Reformed Church in Transcarpathia is the oldest Protestant church in Ukraine, and has around 120,000 members in almost 100 parishes. It is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches.

Visit the World Mission Council’s website for details of how to donate stamps, and for posters.
