March prayer

March prayer

Monday March 2 2020

Holy God,
In Your presence today,
In this season of Lent,
I stop, to think, to pray,
On what has been in my life;
On what is in my life;
On what is yet to be in my life.

The thoughts, the words, the actions,
That in my past,
Have brought darkness and not light,
Have brought pain and not healing,
Have brought resentment and not
resolution;
These I bring before my God.

The thoughts, the words, the actions,
That I shape and realise today,
That bring hope and not despair,
That bring laughter and not tears,
That bring welcome and not exclusion;
These I bring before my God.

The thoughts, the words, the actions,
That are yet unformed and without focus,
That will open doors and not close them,
That will help and not hinder,
That will enable kindness and not cruelty;
These I bring before my God.

Lord God,
As I look inward upon my life,
And outward upon the world,
And the life I wish to lead,
Help me to explore what I must lay down,
And what I must take up;
What I must end, and what I must begin;
What I must lose, and what I must find.
In this laying down and taking up,
In this ending and beginning,
In this losing and finding,
May it be the gently searching light of Christ
That both illuminates my living,
And points me on the road ahead.
Amen.
