Prayers for Holy Week: Palm Sunday

Marking the beginning of Holy Week, a prayer from the Rev Dr Martin Ritchie, minister of Greenbank Parish Church in Edinburgh

Jesus,

You left the safety of friends and supporters to go up to Jerusalem for the festival. You knew what it was to be vulnerable, to put yourself in danger, to live each day with purpose but knowing that it might be your last.

So in these days of lockdown, where even a trip to buy food makes us wary and watchful, wondering about whether the virus may be lurking, comfort us with the knowledge that you see the challenges of our world, that you have been to the darkest places, and have emerged into the light.

May we see this Palm Sunday as one day in your bigger story, and our stories within that too.
