Prayers for Holy Week: Good Friday

Friday April 10 2020

From the Rev Kate McDonald, associate minister, St Andrew's Jerusalem and Tiberias

Our Saviour Jesus Christ,

In the garden of Gethsemane
You cried to your Father, fearing what lay ahead.
For all who are anxious today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

By torchlight at night
You knew the sting of betrayal.
For all whose trust is broken today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

Standing in front of the crowds
You heard their angry shouts.
For all who are persecuted today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

Through the streets of Jerusalem
Your steps were heavy under the weight of the cross.
For all who are burdened today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

Lifted onto the cross
You tasted the bitterness of wine and gall.
For all who hunger and thirst today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

Seeing your mother weeping before you
You looked upon her with compassion.
For all who grieve today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

Mocked by those who gathered
You spoke words of forgiveness over them.
For all who doubt today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

As the sky turned dark
You cried out in agony to God.
For all who feel forsaken today, we pray.
By your wounds we are healed.

Hear our prayers, O Lord. And let our cries come unto you.

Amen.
