Friday July 4
“Summer suns are glowing over land and sea”*
Creating God of work and play
of time to rest and revive
of the long summer days
and clear bright skies.
God of buckets and spades
of skipping ropes and scooters
sand-pies and swimsuits
paddling and picnics.
Gardener of growing things
of rose and raspberry
valerian and vetchling
buddleia and bluet.
Friend of the feathered and furred
of fliers and foragers
finches and futtret
foxes and falcon.
“Everything rejoices in the mellow rays.”
It is good to rest in your care
to glory in your creation
to marvel at beauty loved into being
By your grace we acknowledge too
a world of pain and plunder
of spoiled lives and sadness
Generous God forgive us
lead us to love
as you have loved
“Light of light shine o’er us on our pilgrim way.”
As you have blessed creation, bless us and save us for love’s sake.
Amen.
