Event: Council of Assembly

Place: Quaker Meeting House

Time: 1pm

Presentation of the Church’s annual accounts, budgets and pensions ahead of the Council of Assembly’s Report in the afternoon. A sandwich and fruit lunch will be provided.

 

Sunday May 19

 

Event: Heart and Soul

Place: Princes Street Gardens

Time: 1pm-5pm

Monday May 20

 

Event: Credit Unions

Place: St Columba’s-by-the-Castle

Time: 12.30pm

Representatives from The Church of Scotland, Credit Unions and Dr Robbie Mochrie (Senior Lecturer in Economics at Heriot-Watt University) will be discussing Credit Unions, their role in our current economy and how congregations can support or develop local credit unions in their area.

 

Tuesday May 21

 

Event: Mission and Discipleship Council websites launch

Place: Quaker Meeting House

Time: 12.30pm-2pm

Official launch of www.resourcingmission.org.uk and www.lifeandwork.org, which have both been live since March. Buffet lunch.

 

Event: The Beat Goes On…

Place: St Columba’s-by-the-Castle

Time: 12.30pm-1.45pm

Following World Mission's report, take the opportunity to hear in more depth from partners from South Sudan, Nigeria and Cuba as they share in conversation with the Convener, Andrew McLellan, about the challenges and the joys of being the Church in their own situation today. The Church of Scotland Trinidad Steel-pan Band will also be there to welcome you. Light lunch.

 

Event: Looking for Mrs Livingstone

Place: Scottish Storytelling Centre

Time: 12.30pm

The Very Rev John Miller and Julia Davidson, author of Looking for Mrs Livingstone, discuss the long-lasting and profound legacy of the Livingstones and the Moffats - and the fascinating life of the redoubtable Mrs Livingstone.

 

Event: Book launch of Columba's Iona

Place: Blackwell's 53 - 62 South Bridge, Edinburgh

Time: 7pm

Celebrate the launch of Rosalind K Marshall's new history of Columba's Iona with the Iona Cathedral Trust and Sandstone Press.

 

Wednesday May 22

 

Event: More Than Gold 2014

Place: Quaker Meeting House

Time: 12.30pm-2pm

More Than Gold is the charity assigned to offer the church’s response to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Join them for lunch and information on their work. Buffet lunch.

 

Event: Go For It!

Place: St Columba’s-by-the-Castle

Time: 12.30pm-1.30pm

Come along and play the Go For It Game – helping you to understand more about the kind of projects the fund will support. The event also includes the launch of the Go For It Toolkit, designed to support groups in the development of their work. In addition, you’ll have a chance to see video footage of funded projects, get into discussion and network.  Fruit and sandwich lunch.

 

Event: Syria – a Country in Crisis

Place: Augustine United Church

Time: 12.30pm-1.45pm

Mary Mikhael from the Synod of Syria and Lebanon, and former President of the Near East School of Theology, will share with us the desperate situation in Syria today, the position the church finds itself in and the way in which it can respond in the midst of a continuing humanitarian disaster. Light lunch.

 

Event: General Trustees Insurance Seminar

Place: The Sanctuary, Augustine United Church.

Time: 12.45pm-2pm

This is an opportunity to find out more about the benefits of the new Insurance Scheme being offered by the Church of Scotland Insurance Company whose Chief Executive, Kevin Roberts will give a short presentation and will answer questions. Buffet lunch prepared by The Social Bite.

 

Event: Irish Gathering

Place: Cafe Musa (the Mound)

Time: 5.30pm for 6pm

Thursday May 23

 

Event: HIV Programme

Place: Augustine United Church

Time: 12.30pm-1.45pm

10 years ago the Church of Scotland launched its HIV/AIDS Appeal. Since then, congregations have raised over £1.25m, and the HIV Programme continues to support vital projects around the world and in Scotland itself.  Come and hear Esther Lupafya, Director of Ekwendeni Hospital AIDS Project in Malawi tell of her life-changing work, bringing hope and wholeness to those infected and affected by HIV in her own community. Light lunch.

 

Event: Committee on Church Art and Architecture / Faith Expression

Place: Quaker Meeting House

Time: 12.30pm-2pm

Find out how you can make better use of your worship space by seeing what others have done. Buffet lunch.

 

Event: Investors Trust

Place: St Columba’s-by-the-Castle

Time: 12.30pm

A chance to meet and learn from the investment managers and the Trustees of the Investors Trust.

 

Event: Housing and Loan

Place: Senate Room

Time: 12.30pm

An information session for ministers and their spouses. Light refreshments.

 

Event: Church Service Society Open Meeting and Dinner.

Place: Greyfriars Church

Time: 5.30pm
