Looking Back: 'Life and Work' Readers Help UNICEF

From January 1954

“Life and Work” Readers Help UNICEF

A Flood of Assistance From Scotland

The representative in Britain of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (it is to have a shorter name: United Nations Children’s Fund) has written to the Editor to ask that grateful acknowledgement should be made in the magazine of the ‘flood of gifts’ (many of them anonymous) which has poured in from all parts of Scotland as a result of the article in the November issue. Hundreds of letters were also received asking for Christmas cards, and many offered their services to help the cause. “It seems,” says the organiser, “as if every corner of Scotland will soon know of what is being done for the hungry and diseased children of the world.”

The article, ‘Five minutes to Read This’ is to be reprinted in the UNICEF News, which is the news sheet of the fund. The address, for any who may have missed the article, is UNICEF, Russell Square House, London, W.C.1.
