Looking Back: Preaching from a Boat

From June 1964

THE harbour of Rosehearty, Aberdeenshire, was a ready-made amphitheatre for a Rogation Day Service led by the Rev Eric G Milton, minister of the parish of Pitsligo.

About 1,000 people gathered round the piers and pier walls. A Boys’ Brigade band led the signing. The theme of the service was that Christ is at the centre of all our life and work.

The minister preached from a fishing-boat, anchored in the harbour. The prayers were for the blessing of the community’s work on land and sea. The service was attended by the Provost of the burgh.
