Looking Back: The Queen's Visit To Church Home

From August 1964

Dalmore Eventide Home, Alness, on the shores of the Cromarty Firth, now has the distinction of being the first Home under the Social Service Committee of the Church to be honoured with a Royal visit.

During her recent tour in Ross-shire and Inverness, culminating in the now memorable visit to Aberdeen, Her Majesty graciously spared time to visit forty old people and the staff at the Home.

The keynote which she herself struck in the visit was one of very evident personal concern and interest, which touched every heart. Indeed she shook hands and spoke with every single resident.

Also in the grounds at the time of Her Majesty’s short stay were the local schoolchildren who shared in the excitement and, all unrehearsed, received much of her attention.

Her Majesty was accompanied by Prince Philip who received a swift, if perhaps unexpected, reply from an aged resident to a kindly question.

“What kind of food do they give you here?,” asked the Prince. Gently and firmly came the reply, “You, Sir, have no better.”!
