The Scone and St Martins Church Fair on Saturday raised over £6000. The fair was opened by depute provost of Perth and Kinross, Willie Wilson, and included pony rides, a duck race and entertainment from the Perth and District Pipe Band.
At a recent morning service in Blairgowrie Parish Church Lex Dunlop was presented with a certificate in recognition of his 60 years as a church organist. The certificate was handed over by the Rev Harry Mowbray.
Mr Dunlop was first appointed as organist and choir master at St John's Church, Ardrossan, in 1958 and 10 years later moved to St Cuthbert's South Beach Church in Saltcoats. Ten years later, when he was appointed Rector of Blairgowrie High School, he played each Sunday at various churches in the area before taking up the post of organist and choir master in 1983 to the then St Andrew's Church, Blairgowrie, later to become Blairgowrie Parish Church.
Mr Mowbray said that Mr Dunlop has served with great skill and commitment at regular Sunday services and choir practices as well as providing music for many other church activities, including Holy Week and Christmas services.
