Minister and Journalist at 'Smallest Book Festival'

Monday March 18 2019

A prominent Church of Scotland minister and a former editor of Life and Work are among the speakers at a book festival in Edinburgh marking Christian Aid Week.

The event at the City of Edinburgh Methodist Church first joined the city’s two established Christian Aid Week book sales in 2017. However, it differs from the famous St Andrew’s and St George’s West and Holy Corner sales in including a series of speakers and events, which it dubs ‘Edinburgh’s smallest book festival’.

This year’s speakers include The Rev Dr Richard Frazer, minister of Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh and currently convener of the Church’s Church and Society Council. His new book, Travels With a Stick, is his reflection on a walk along the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage.

Also on the bill is Rosemary Goring, a writer and journalist whose books include Scotland: The Autobiography and most recently Scotland: Her Story: The Nation’s History by the Women Who Lived It. She edited Life and Work from 2000-2002.

Other speakers include crime writer Lin Anderson, young adult author Lesley Glaister and Claire Askew, writer in residence at the University of Edinburgh.

The festival takes place during Christian Aid Week, from Saturday-Friday May 11-17. For the full timetable visit https://christianaidbooksedinburgh.wordpress.com/
