New Hymnal Resource

Wednesday June 5 2019

A new online resource has been launched to help congregations make the most of the Church Hymnal, CH4.

The new resource, which went live last week, has been developed by the Mission and Discipleship Council and has taken almost three years to reach this stage. It includes recorded samples of every hymn in CH4, performed by a variety of choirs, church bands, groups and soloists from throughout Scotland.

The hymns are searchable by theme, tune, author, composer and metre; and each hymn has its own page with full information and alternative tunes.

There are also playlists for weekly worship, for funerals, weddings and events in the Church year. The playlists will be expanded and more added over coming months.

Iain McLarty, who has been  involved with the project from the start and produced the recordings, said: “This is the ‘soft launch’ and there is a lot more still to appear in the coming months with more detailed information about hymns, even better ways to search, and hopefully the ability to create your own playlists to share.

“But I’m very proud of even just what is here and a huge thanks to the literally hundreds of people across the country who have been involved in making this happen.”

The new resource is at music.churchofscotland.org.uk/
