AIDS Campaigner Visits Scotland

Friday October 11 2013

Malawian AIDS campaigner Maria Silo is touring Scotland over the next fortnight as the guest of the Church of Scotland HIV Programme.

Since learning she was HIV positive in 1998, Maria has worked to combat the stigma and discrimination faced by those with HIV/AIDS, setting up support groups, helping families and friends to care for people with the virus and encouraging people to be tested and be open about their HIV status.

At events around Scotland, she will tell her story and discuss the work of the Ekwendeni Hospital AIDS Programme, which treated her and which is supported by the Church of Scotland.

An interview with Maria will appear in December's Life and Work.
