The Christian Christmas charity ALTERnativity and a number of church organisations have produced a new resource aimed at helping families get back to the heart of the Christmas message.
The discussion cards invite us to consider the meaning of Christmas against the backdrop of climate emergency, political upheaval, the refugee crisis and the number of people around the world still living with poverty and hunger.
They state: “At ALTERnativity we want to find ways to help people think through their actions at Christmas and yet still have a joyful, meaningful and fun celebration.”
The cards have been produced by ALTERnativity with the support of the Church of Scotland World Mission Council, the Church of Scotland Guild and Action of Churches Together in Scotland.
They combine Bible verses and prayer with reflections and discussion points on Christmas traditions and celebrations, displacement and unintended consequences; encouraging people to consider how they can keep the real meaning of Christmas at the centre of their celebrations, and how to avoid the modern-day risks of overspending and the stress of organising it all.
The discussion cards and other resources are available to download free from the ALTERnativity website.
