Uniformed Organisations Suspended Amid Coronavirus Advice

                                                                                                                             Tuesday March 17 2020

UNIFORMED organisations across Scotland, including the Girls' Brigade, Boys' Brigade and Girl Guiding have suspended all activity in the wake of new measures relating to the Coronavirus outbreak.

In a letter issued last night to Girls' Brigade leaders across Scotland, GB Scotland chief executive Caroline Goodfellow said tha following discussion with GB President Jennifer Major the decision had been taken to cancel all work until further notice.

She wrote: 'All GB companies will close with immediate effect and all division events, parents nights, outings etc should be cancelled until further notice. On the same basis, all national training days, meetings etc are also cancelled.

"Please ensure that you communicate this to parents and guardians immediately.

"We are aware that Government has not stated that schools should close as yet but believe that is imminent. Much as we love GB it is a non-essential service at times like this and we want to minimise risk to girls, leaders, their families and the wider community. Our colleagues in GB Northern Ireland and GB Ireland have already closed down all GB activities on the same basis."

She added: "As Christians we put our faith in God and trust that He will guide us through these challenging times."

BB Scotland has suspended all meetings and activity until further notice. Girlguiding cancelled all meetings last night and is emailing parents. Scouts across the UK have also suspended activities.
