Historic Virtual Guild Gathering

THE Church of Scotland Guild will make history in September with its first online ‘virtual’ gathering.

The Gathering – a national celebration of the life of the Guild – now marks the launch of the annual Guild week, but had to be cancelled this year amid the Coronavirus Covid-19 global pandemic.

However, a virtual Guild has been organised, which will allow the Gathering to take place online on Saturday September 5. The Gathering, which will be livestreamed from 11am will feature an address from the outgoing National Convener, Marian Macintyre, the installation of the new Convener, Mabel Wallace along with an address from the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Rt Rev Dr Martin Fair. Worship is always a key part of the Gathering and the online event will be no different, with musical interludes also coming from the Heart and Soul Swing Band, a virtual Guild choir offering a new Guild blessing and the Govan Songsters who had been due to perform at the original Gathering. The Church’s chief operating officer Dave Kendall will also address the Gathering and there will be updates on the organisations work from General Secretary Iain Whyte and Associate Secretary, Karen Gillon.

The gathering will conclude with a special communion led by the Rev Tom Macintyre, husband of the outgoing Convener, Marian Macintyre.

Welcoming the announcement of the virtual Guild, Marian said: “We are delighted to be making history with our first online Gathering and hope as many people as possible will be able to come together and share in our celebration of the life and unique work of the Church of Scotland Guild.”

The Gathering will be webcast from 11am on September 5 at www.churchofscotland.org.uk

“Well done to the Guild for this initiative :) I hope that their virtual meeting goes well. Maybe something to continue in subsequent years for those unable to attend??”

Joan Wylie - Tuesday, July 28th, 2020

“Looking forward to the Gathering. Trust the Guild to be a trailblazer!”
