Pray for Schools Appeal

Monday January 24 2022

Scripture Union Scotland has appealed for more people to commit to pray for Scotland’s schools.

Under the Pray for Schools Scotland scheme, supporters commit to praying for a specific school. Currently around two thirds of Scotland’s schools are prayed-for, including 89% of secondary schools.

SU Scotland hopes to expand the coverage so that every school in Scotland would be a prayed-for school.

Elizabeth McDowall, SU Scotland’s Prayer and Church Partnerships Co-ordinator, said: “It has been a joy over the years to see people registering prayer and ticking the ‘link up’ box, and get in touch with others who are already praying. 63% of Scottish schools are being prayed for. We should give thanks for this!

“However registrations have slowed down, and people registering prayer nowadays are registering for schools which already have prayer cover. Very few of the non-prayed for schools have seen any move towards prayer cover.

“There are lots of primary schools near where we live and worship, and although 89% of secondary schools are prayed for many of their feeder primaries are not. Maybe this is something an individual – or a church – can commit to?”
