Christian Aid Launches Podcast Series for Lent

Friday March 25 2022

Christian Aid is launching its first podcast series this Wednesday, to mark the start of Lent. It will feature guest contributions from ministers of the Church of Scotland, the Quakers in Britain, Eco-Congregation Scotland, Operation Noah and the Young Christian Climate Network.

Episode one, ‘Dust’, will be available on Ash Wednesday (March 2) with another nine episodes released in the run up to Easter.  ‘Walking Humbly’ is being hosted by Wendy Lloyd (pictured), Christian Aid’s Faith Communications Co-ordinator.

Wendy said: “We often draw on the words of Micah 6:8 to motivate ourselves to do justice and love kindness, but pay less attention to the last part of the verse to ‘walk humbly with our God’. I hope the podcasts provide people with the space they need to reflect and be refreshed  during each week of Lent – perhaps while going on a walk in the beauty of creation.”

Each episode will reflect on our journey to climate justice for all, and feature stories, biblical reflections, songs and prayers. Episode one will be available to download from Ash Wednesday, 2 March, with a new episode released each Monday of Lent. A transcript and questions for reflection and discussion will also be provided for each episode.

Christian Aid’s Sally Foster-Fulton will talk about the organisation’s climate-related humanitarian work in South Sudan. The Rev Grant Barclay and the Rev Fiona Smith will consider what it means to be a pilgrim, and the Rev Dr Richard Frazer will lead the reflections on Maundy Thursday.

Bokani Tshidzu, Bright Now Campaign Officer with Operation Noah, features in the second episode, ‘Wilderness’. She describes how the Walking Humbly podcasts will ‘provide an invitation for us to recognise that the world is our common home and that a humble response to the climate and nature crises is, to act justly love mercy and walk humbly into a brighter future for our siblings and for the planet.’
