Mark's Gospel Performed at Fringe

Thursday July 28 2022

An acclaimed one-man performance of Mark’s Gospel is returning to Edinburgh Festival Fringe for a week next month.

Stefan Smart’s production I Am Mark, which debuted at the Fringe in 2018 and returned the following year, offers the opportunity to experience Mark’s Gospel as intended, out loud in one sitting.

Smart, a former drama and English teacher, has performed I Am Mark in churches, cathedrals, conferences and schools throughout the UK and abroad, and for the Christian streaming TV service CMAX.

He says: “Mark’s Gospel has got to be the most exciting book in the whole Bible. It’s action-packed, fast-paced, intriguing, entertaining, moving and disturbing by turns. Most of all, Mark’s portrait of his enigmatic hero, and his radical life of welcome and inclusivity, continues to fascinate people everywhere, regardless of whether they are religious or not.”

I Am Mark will be performed at Greenside@Riddles Court, just off the Royal Mile, from August 5-13. Tickets are available from the usual Fringe outlets and website.
