Actress Tamsin Greig and rugby star Billy Vunipola will be among the quizmasters for Tearfund’s fifth annual Big Quiz Night on Saturday November 19.
Last year’s event saw quizzers gather to take the total raised by the quiz night since 2018 to £830,000, which is helping towards ending extreme poverty in the 50 countries the international Christian charity works in.
This year Tearfund is hoping that churches across the country will help push the total past the £1 million mark. Friday Night Dinner star Tamsin Greig and Saracens Number 8 Billy Vunipola will be among the quizmasters reading out questions as part of the video package sent to churches and community groups across the UK.
Since 2018 Tearfund has been providing ready-made quiz resources, meaning those taking part have everything they need to hold the evening. The quiz pack includes questions suitable for all ages and teams, large or small, as well as social media assets and videos to engage quizzers.
“Our annual Big Quiz Night is a great opportunity to bring people together, invite friends who don’t go to church and have a fun evening,” said Tearfund’s Head of Church and Supporter Engagement, Ruth Tormey. “Now in its fifth year, we are hoping the quiz will hit £1 million as the previous four quizzes have raised over £800,000. In particular, we want to support Venezuelan refugees who have settled in Colombia after fleeing the crisis that has devastated their homeland. Most of the people arrive in the country in conditions of extreme need.”
