Freuchie Church welcomed two new elders to the session on January 15. Ishbel Ancell and Janet Molinek were ordained by the Rev Ian Hamilton and are pictured with him and Session Clerk Margaret Cuthbert. It was a particularly fitting moment as Ishbel and Janet joined Freuchie Church together 54 years ago.

Eight elders from Craigie Symington Parish Church received Long Service Certificates on January 15.

Pictured from left: the Rev Kenneth Elliott (parish minister), May Steel, Mungo Tulloch, Jenny Tierney, Kevin Tierney, Bill Harvey, Billy Kilpatrick, Angela Liggat, John Howie, the Rev Tom McLeod (OLM) and Doreen Tait (Session Clerk).

Port Glasgow New Parish Church was joined by the Moderator of the General Assembly on Sunday as it began its 200th anniversary celebrations.

The Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields preached at the service and spoke with the church Sunday club. He also presented long service certificates to five elders who have each served for 30 years or more.

The Moderator gave out crosses that were made for him at a prison he visits regularly, and in return received a card from the Sunday Club and a framed painting of the church painted by the brother of one of the session clerks.

About 180 people attended a celebration buffet, where Dr Greenshields cut the 200th anniversary cake.

“It it was a lovely service and I was delighted to be one of the Elders who was presented with a long service award even more special that it was presented by the Moderator ”
