Still Time to Donate to Stamp Appeal

Tuesday February 6 2023

There is still time to send in stamps for the Church of Scotland’s 2022-23 Stamp Appeal, which comes to an end later this month.

This year’s appeal is aimed at raising enough to fund a pastor on a full time salary in the National  Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL), a Church of Scotland partner church.

The NESSL has, in the past, been able to support pastors from money raised by running fee paying schools. In the last few years as the economic situation has deteriorated, many families are finding it hard to pay school fees and the knock-on effect on the financial situation in the Synod has affected the ability to pay pastors’ salaries. Some pastors have left their vocation to take other jobs as they are unable to provide for their families, while  others are really struggling to make ends meet.

Despite this, pastors are reaching out to the needy in their congregations in a sacrificial way. In 2021 they initiated a scheme where they gave half of their salary to establish a relief programme, supporting the neediest families around their congregations.

This has prompted the Synod to reach out to partners around the world to support the various ongoing project work and to include in this the support of pastors.

The World Mission Stamp appeal has been running for more than 50 years and has raised many thousands of pounds. It will continue for 2023-24, and full details will be announced in the coming months.

Instructions for donating stamps to the appeal are on the Church of Scotland website.
