A Perth Prayer Shawl Ministry is celebrating the landmark of 1000 completed shawls.

The ministry was introduced in 2010 by a pastoral assistant, visiting from America, and the wife of the minister at St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields Church, Perth. The first project was a set of four blankets for the four churches in the city who were hoping to work together.

The group comes together monthly to share fellowship, talents and refreshment, and their talents extend beyond shawls. They also knit baby items for local hospitals, hats and scarves for seafarers based in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, clothes, blankets and toys for local authority services, and goods for the annual shoebox appeal. All the work is blessed with a special prayer before it leaves the group.

The Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields, visited Zetland Church in Grangemouth, where he presented long service awards to elders, Boys' Brigade officers and others.

Before the service Dr Greenshields visited 100-year-old John Wardlaw at home, to present him with a certificate marking 70 years’ service.
