There are less than three weeks left for churches to enter this year’s National Church Awards.
Run by the National Churches Trust (NCT), the awards celebrate the UK’s church buildings and those who care for them, with categories in care and conservation, church and community volunteers and ‘open for visitors’.
There is also a special award for lifetime achievement, recognising a person or team’s lifetime dedication to a church, an award judged by the Friends of the NCT which will grant £10,000 towards an urgent repairs or facilities project, and the Church of the Year award for ‘a church that fulfils its potential and makes a mark on its community and beyond’.
The awards are open to any church, chapel or meeting house in the UK and are free to enter. Nominations will be judged by a team of church and heritage professionals.
This year’s awards are in honour of Lord Patrick Cormack, a longstanding vice president of the NCT who died earlier this year. Lord Cormack, a committed Anglican, was involved in many organisations campaigning for the preservation of churches and historic buildings, including the Historic Buildings Council, Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings and Heritage in Danger.
The deadline for entries is August 31. For more information and to enter, visit https://www.nationalchurchestrust.org/impact/awards
